Coin Specifications:
Join
the British Royal Mint in celebrating King Charles III's coronation in May of
2023. The event marks the first time that most people alive today will see a
coronation in Britain due to the extended reign of Queen Elizabeth II, the
longest-reigning monarch in the country's history. This limited mintage gold
piece makes the perfect keepsake for any royal family enthusiast or anyone with
an interest in historic events. The obverse notably features the first crowned
coinage portrait of His Majesty The King.
Obverse:
Martin Jennings designed the obverse, which features a crowned King Charles
III. The new monarch faces left and bears a stern countenance. His name and
abbreviated Latin title, "KING CHARLES IIII D G REX F D," join the
coin's face value, "50 PENCE," and its date, "2023," on the
rim. Martin Jennings sculpts in stone and bronze. A prolific artist, his work
features in such locations as London's National Portrait Gallery, St. Paul's
Cathedral, and Oxford University.
Reverse:
John Bergdahl's reverse design features a crowned shield. The shield has
symbols of Ireland, England, Scotland, and Wales and is surrounded by
flourishes. Along the rim frame are inscriptions of the event for which the
coin was issued, "THE CORONATION OF KING CHARLES III," and the date
of that event, "6 MAY 2023." John Bergdahl is one of Britain's most
prolific numismatic artists.
