The Electra Permanent electrostatic air filter SILVER 1" Thick provides over 94% Arrestance (or 82% if selected) in a premium quality roll-formed steel frame with a durable and attractive finish. At the heart of this filter are three layers of high arrestance material sandwiched between 2 layers of expanded steel. A special Impregnated black Polypropylene has an EPA registered anti-microbial material to inhibit mold and bacteria growth while the center non-woven layer retains debris in a maze of fibers designed to maximize air flow even when soiled. The filter can be easily washed or vacuumed to restore it.  Rated by independent testing laboratory at over 94% peak arrestance (or 82% if selected) , this filter has 10 times the arrestance of a disposable fiberglass filter.

ARRESTANCE

Arrestance is just a fancy word for filtering capacity. All filters come in one of two types of arrestance - either 94% or 82%. The 94% arrestance filter provides higher filtering capacity by trapping up to 94% of particles in the air. We also offer filters with an 82% arrestance. This provides slightly less filtering capacity, but is less restrictive, allowing greater airflow through the filter. An 82% arrestance filter would be appropriate using the following formula. If the filter square footage is less than the tonnage of the unit, we recommend an 82% arrestance filter.

How To Determine If You Need an 82% or 94% Arrestance Filter
Here's an example: If you have a 16x25 filter and a 2.5 ton unit, the square footage of the filter is 2.8 sq feet (16 x 25 / 144 = 2.8). Since 2.8 is greater than 2.5, you are fine with using a 94% arrestance filter in this system. If the filter size is 12x18, the square footage of this filter is 1.5 (12 x 18 / 144 = 1.5). Since 1.5 is less than 2.5, we would recommend an 82% arrestance filter in this case.
