FlixMobility is a mobility provider and has been offering long-distance bus trips under the FlixBus brand since 2013. The specially founded subsidiary Flixtrain received a license as a railway transport company in August 2017 and initially started the Berlin – Stuttgart connection. There has been a train connection between Hamburg and Cologne since 2018. The Berlin – Cologne route has been served since May 2019. In long-distance transport, the company is Deutsche Bahn's only competitor, apart from foreign railway companies. Flixtrain does not have its own passenger cars or locomotives. Instead, private railway companies are commissioned to provide not only the vehicles but also the train crew. The vehicle material for this comes, among other things, from former Deutsche Bahn passenger cars. The Vectron locomotive rented from Railpool has been used to transport the trains since the beginning of 2019.
