Gordian III (Marcus Antonius Gordianus) was the youngest emperor of the Roman Empire. After the death of Alexander Severus in 235AD, Maximinus became emperor. The Roman Senate didn’t like him and a series of wars and chaos followed. Maximinus was killed by his own soldiers after a battle with Rome’s appointed emperors, Pupienus and Balbinus. In June 238, they were assassinated by the Praetorian Guard and Gordian III became emperor. He was 13 years old. He would reign until his death in 244; at age 19.
