I must say that I much prefer the new cut of the No. 2 pencil to previous years versions - it is a substantially better cut in every way! The waistband is wider and nipped in, while the hips remain true to size per the online size chart. What I love most about the newer version is that it doesn't "spin around" while I'm walking!!! In the older versions, the spinning got so bad that I would wear a shaper slip underneath and PIN the waistband to the slip so my skirt would stay in place - well spinning skirt be gone!!! I am in heaven as the new version fits like it was tailor made for me at half the price of a tailor made pencil skirt! I wear skirts every day as I don't like the feeling of pants, so I do own a lot of skirts, and the ones I reach for time and again are the NEW version of the No. 2 Pencil - thank you J. Crew!!!
For reference, I am 5'9", 140, size 4 reg, athletic / lean build
Perhaps the perfect wool skirt

Bit embarrassed to say that, with the purchase of this year's chartreuse, I now have 13 of these skirts. The colours are fabulous, and the cut and quality are excellent. I appreciate the attention to detail - the colour of the lining actually matches the colour of the skirt, and is trimmed with ribbon also in the same shade (if not exact colour#. The seaming on my first skirt #whenever JCrew first came out with this style which may be 5-6 years ago# still remains intact. I wear the petite line and these are true to size (glad that JCrew isn't going the unfortunate vanity sizing route like so many other stores). Given all the pretty colours that come, my collection of these skirts may just keep growing.
