Also known as George Air Force Base, the Victorville Air Force Base was established by the United States Army Air Corps as an Advanced Flying School in June 1941. It was closed at the end of World War II but was again activated as a training base by the United States Air Force with the outbreak of the Korean War in November 1950. George AFB was closed in 1988 and is now a public airport.
