This item is a vintage ornate Mexican Sombrero or Mariachi hat. It is a creamy off-white color with a lot of decoration. There are six fancy horseshoes on the top and crown and four more on the underside. There are many sequin and thread designs. There is green felt, orange cord and beige rick-rack.  There is a double cord chin string with an adjustment bead. Inside on the brown piece that goes around the head is a gold oval sticker that reads: HERRERA MONTIEL No. HECHO EN MEXICO TEHUACAN PUEBLA. Inside the crown is a plastic and paper lining. The paper reads: SOMBREROS -X-X-X-X-X- HECHO EN MEXICO CALIDAD y DURACION (or CURACION the paper is ripped a bit and I am not sure of the first letter). The edges of the brim are curved up somewhat and in two corners are turned up more. The crown has four circular indentations. The brim is about 14" x 13" measured with it curved up. If it were flattened it would measure larger. The crown is about 5" higher than the brim. The size is not marked but using a sewing tape measure I found the circumference on the inside at the base of the crown to be about 20" . So this is smaller than an adult size Small, so is probably fit a child or small teen. This is certainly vintage, but I do not know the age. Overall this is in good condition with wear. Some of the sequins are damaged or missing, but most are fine. A great hat for your collection, display, celebration, Cinco de Mayo, parade, band, or just for family fun!
