  • Thank you for the email. William Mason Brown did indeed paint landscapes as well as still lifes. Most of his landscape paintings are tighter than your example, but he adapted to changing tastes as the 19th century progressed, Your landscape is more painterly and atmospheric, which suggests that it is a later work, when he had adopted the techniques popularized by the French landscape artists of the Barbizon School.
