A hammered patera instead of the normal spun or cast ones.  Also designed to hang over a fire instead of sitting on a stove.  From My Collection and for sale here is a Unique Ancient Roman Legionary Patera or Military Cooking Pan for a Soldier when he was either camped or in a fortress.  I have owned four of these in the past and I only purchase high quality and fully intact one's or unique ones.  This particular Legionary Food Cooking Tool is unique for a legionary patera in the fact that it has a rounded bottom and three holes drilled into it so that it could hang over a fire.  Most have flat bottoms to sit on a stove.  Some rare ones even have holes drilled into them to act as a strainer.  They also come in different sizes.  This one besides being 100% in tact is also unique in it's design.  I have visited most of the Roman Museums in Western Europe and I have never seen one like this before.  I have also been collecting Roman antiquities and following associated auctions for nearly 40 years.   The material is yellow bronze which in ancient times was also called orichalcum.   This patera was found in Germany along the Roman fortified front lines called a limes.
