Kate Greenaway was a noted children's book illustrator & child portrait painter. The Royal Doulton Nisbet Collection of Kate Greenaway dolls is based on her work. In the early1980s, the costume designers of House of Nisbet & the artists of Royal Doulton worked together to recreate Victorian girls in a LIMITED EDITION of 5,000 individually sculpted, handpainted & numbered pieces. Each doll has its own specially created & individually sculpted ivory bone china head. The outfits are handstitched by the needlewomen of the House of Nisbet. The hairstyles are typical of the Victorian era and are crafted of mohair. Based on an 1896 Kate Greenaway watercolor, Swansdown has blond curly hair and is dressed for cold weather in a fur-trimmed caped coat of heavy ivory textured satin over a white satin dress. She carries a white fur muff & wears a lace-trimmed hat. The hat & coat are adorned with real swansdown & yellow ribbons. Based on Victorian tradition, the dolls are soft-bodied with fine bone china heads & hands. They are entirely handpainted by skilled artists who add a little of their own style to the doll, so each one is unique. Each doll is presented in a blue taffeta-lined Royal Doulton box. Her LIMITED EDITION number appears on a tab inside her garment & on the COA (#1418/5000). The COA was SIGNED in 1986 BY MICHAEL DOULTON, a 6th generation and oldest living member of the family. A round blue & gold Royal Doulton hangtag with the doll's name hangs from her wrist. Swansdown measures 12" tall. She is in pristine condition, but the box shows some very slight signs of shelfwear. Doll stand IS INCLUDED. Made In England
