This amazing illustration comes from the decorative endsheets (inside hardcovers) of a 1944 printing of Andersen's Fairy Tales. The artwork for the book was by Polish-Jewish artist, Arthur Szyk, and includes a neatly hidden dedication to his granddaughter, Catherine Elizabeth. It is such a sweet and detailed drawing that includes many of Andersen's characters from long ago! Everyone will love looking at this poster and trying to pick out the origins and stories that the people, animals, and strange creatures come from.
