My English father-in-law was a passionate antique dealer. Many strange & interesting things have passed through his hands, & he has created a fascinating legacy for our family. From his estate...
This item is a lot of 40 different antique cards from a 50 card set issued by John Player & Sons in 1914, titled Regimental Uniforms.
The cards feature the colorful and fanciful full dress uniforms of 50 different regiments from Britain. These feature different regimental types, such as fusiliers, guards, lancers, hussars etc, and gives a few examples of each. Most uniforms are Circa 1800's, but some go back to 1600 & 1700's and some up to the 1900's.
This is a very colorful and cheerful set, the colors are still very strong and vivid. These 108 year old cards are mostly in good condition, with mostly clean fronts and backs with good corners. There are a few tired cards, and a some with small age stains. stubbed corners, as well as the odd crease, no doubt from the grubby hands of English school boys handling them 100 years ago, lol... but overall condition is good. I have priced them accordingly Please use the zoom feature to check out the condition. There were two issues of these cards, one in 1912 that had the back text in blue ink, and this set from 1914 with brown ink, they both use the same exact pictures.
