My English father-in-law was a passionate antique dealer. Many strange & interesting things have passed through his hands, & he has created a fascinating legacy for our family.
This item is an antique & original single card, #47, from the set titled British Medals & Ribbons issued circa 1909 by James Taddy & Co, London. Card #47 features the Soudan (British) Medal. Also known as the Queen's Sudan Medal, it was authorised in March 1899 and awarded to British and Egyptian forces which took part in the Sudan campaign between June 1896 and September 1898.
Taddys are among the most sought after of all the cigarette cards, & ones in great condition are not so common, or easy to find. This #47 card is in excellent condition, lovely clean front & back, with very nice sharp corners. The Myrtle Grove design on the back, with its lovely dusky green shading & flowing script is charming. No creases, bends or other blemishes. Please be sure to use the zoom feature to inspect for condition.
