Notes on purchasing and using thermometers. 

Be sure it is sealed. Many of the units on eBay are NOT sealed. See a little hole on the edge of the case? = water and bugs.
 
  • Be sure of the face size. Many photos are deceptive. 
  • Check accuracy. 1% of full scale is the standard. Many of the units sold do not list accuracy. You can assume they are NOT 1%.
  • DO NOT install thermometers by turning the dial. Use a wrench on the flats. 
  • If you feel you must adjust the thermometer, be sure to use a calibrated measurement device as a reference. Altitude alone can change the temperature of boiling water by 10 degrees. In Denver you will read boiling water at about 202 F. 
  • If you have room, a longer stem is generally more accurate (we have 2 1/2", 4" & 6"  stem units available)
