My English father-in-law was a passionate antique dealer.  Many strange & interesting things have passed through his hands, & he has created a fascinating legacy for our family. From his estate...

This item is an antique original & complete set of 50 numbered cigarette cards, titled English Period costumes. They were issued by WD & HO Wills Branch of the Imperial Tobacco Co (of Great Britain and Ireland) LTD, circa 1929.

They each measure 1 3/8'' x 2 5/8''. This series depicts the kinds of clothes worn by a cross section of The different classes from roughly the 12th century through to around the mid 1800s. They show a variety of Lords, Ladies, clergy, officers, courtiers, country gentlemen, maids, pages, couriers, & servants etc through the centuries.

These cards are in nice condition, mostly clean fronts & backs with good corners, a few slight marks on the odd card, #7 & 26 have a crease, & #5 has some small marks, but over all a nice 90 year old set. They are preserved in plastic insert pages, which unfortunately do not enhance the photos. They look better in person.

My photos are of each page - front & back - so you can use the zoom feature to inspect each card and its description.  These cards are NOT reproductions.
