Electrolytic capacitors are polarity sensitive — the negative lead is marked with a stripe on the capacitor body and is typically the shorter lead. Always verify polarity before powering a circuit. Install with the voltage rating at or above your supply voltage; for a 12V supply these 50V caps offer substantial derating margin for long service life. When used for power supply filtering, placing the capacitor as close as possible to the load reduces the effect of trace inductance.
