These 3mm blue/red alternating flashing LEDs are built for police-style lighting effects — the dual-color, 1.5Hz automatic flash cycle is self-contained in the LED itself, no external controller needed.
Each LED runs at a forward voltage of 2.9–3.1V at 20mA and emits at a very bright 6,000–7,000 mcd through a clear round-top lens with a focused 25° viewing angle. The 3mm DIP package fits a standard 3mm drill hole, and the built-in alternating flash switches between blue and red automatically on DC power.
Animated LEDs (flashing, flickering, fading) require DC — they will not operate correctly on AC power. If you are working from a low-voltage AC source such as a model railroad transformer or DCC output, convert to DC first with a MB1S bridge rectifier paired with a 100µF 50V electrolytic capacitor for smoothing. Without the capacitor, the animation pattern may glitch on the pulsed DC output of a bare rectifier.
Do animated LEDs work on AC power?
| Power Source | Bridge Rectifier | 100µF Capacitor |
|---|---|---|
| DC power supply | No | No |
| 12V AC landscape transformer | Required | Required |
| DCC track power | Required | Required |
Animated LEDs require DC. Convert AC sources to DC using a bridge rectifier plus a 100µF smoothing capacitor for clean, ripple-free animation.
Resistor quick reference — 2V LEDs (red, orange, yellow, amber) at 20mA:
| Supply Voltage | Resistor | Power Rating |
|---|---|---|
| 3V | 56Ω | 1/4W |
| 4V | 100Ω | 1/4W |
| 5V | 150Ω | 1/4W |
| 6V | 200Ω | 1/4W |
| 7V | 270Ω | 1/4W |
| 8V | 300Ω | 1/4W |
| 9V | 360Ω | 1/4W |
| 10V | 430Ω | 1/4W |
| 11V | 470Ω | 1/4W |
| 12V | 510Ω | 1/4W |
| 13V | 560Ω | 1/2W |
| 14V | 620Ω | 1/2W |
| 15V | 680Ω | 1/2W |
Prefer not to calculate resistor values? Our 20mA LED Current Limiter eliminates the math entirely. Active constant-current drive to 20mA across a 4–45V DC supply — ideal for automotive circuits where voltage fluctuates. Multiple LEDs in series share one driver.

Most of the times the postage on our items are free, but when it is not we do our best to make sure that you pay very close to the actual postage price. If you feel this is not the case on items that are not "Free Shipping" then please let us know and we will make the adjustment before you pay. We do ask that you email/message us before paying for the auctions you have "won". Thanks.
We will always ship items out as fast as we possibly can. Most times your item will even ship the same day you purchased. We typically quit processing new orders between noon and 4:00 PM (PST). Please simply check our feedback to show you how quickly we ship. Nearly every feedback comments on this.
We do our best to provide fair shipping prices on all the items. You will have the best shipping prices if you checkout/pay after you have chosen all the items that you would like to purchase. Ebay will combine all shipping costs that are qualified for combined shipping costs.
We will leave excellent feedback up receipt of payment. We ask that once you have received your item you leave an equivalent feedback.
If, for some reason, there is an issue that needs resolved, please simply send us a message. We are people, just like everyone else, and are willing to help resolve any issues there may be.
Please contact us sooner than later if you have questions regarding a product/shipment/installation. We would rather you ask before installing/using an item, if you are unsure, and get it right the first time.
We will address negative feedback and "star" ratings. Negative feedback is meant to be used if a seller is completely unresponsive and unwilling to work with you. We are ALWAYS willing to help and resolve any issues. We do ask that you please don't send any "rude" emails and give us a change to help. Again, this is such a rare instance we can nearly guarantee this won't apply to you. We ship the items as fast as we possibly can and via the methods stated, after that we have no say in what the postal system does with it. If they go beyond the estimated delivery time, it is not our fault. Please give us a break regarding this. Email us if you feel your item should have been delivered and isn't.
