These 3mm blue extra-fast flashing LEDs self-oscillate at 6Hz with no external circuit required — just add power and a resistor, and they strobe on their own. That built-in flash rate makes them a direct fit for police/emergency lighting builds, RC cars, and any project where a rapid blue strobe is the effect you're after.
Each LED runs at 3.0–3.4V forward voltage at 20mA, emits at a wavelength of 462.5 nm (deep blue), and puts out a measured 10,000–12,000 mcd through a clear lens with a focused 25° viewing angle. The 3mm round-top package fits a standard 3.2mm (1/8") drill bit hole and drops into any build where a T-1 size LED is called for.
Common applications
- RC car police/emergency builds: Drill through polycarbonate body shells (3.2mm bit) and wire directly — standard on 1:10 truck and crawler police light bars. Yeah Racing-style LED kits use this exact footprint.
- Warhammer 40K lighting: Plasma cannon glow, force weapon OSL effects, Dreadnought eye sockets, and Thunderhawk cockpit accents — 3mm slots into most resin and plastic bases without modification.
- HO and N scale railroad signals: Crossing flashers, grade crossing signals, and emergency vehicle models on layouts. The 6Hz rate closely matches prototype US crossing flasher timing.
- Slot car track lighting: Police chase car builds for Carrera 1:32 Digital layouts running 12V DC — two LEDs in series with a 470O resistor is standard practice.
- Arduino/microcontroller prototyping: Use without a microcontroller for a standalone strobe, or drive from a GPIO pin for software-controlled override of the built-in flash pattern.
- Panel indicators and equipment repair: Replacement alert/status indicators in older test equipment, ham radio gear (Kenwood, Yaesu, ICOM), and PLC relay boards where a blue flash is used as an active-state indicator.
Wiring & power notes
Animated LEDs (flashing, flickering, fading) require DC — they will not operate correctly on AC power. If you are working from a low-voltage AC source such as a model railroad transformer or DCC output, convert to DC first with a MB1S bridge rectifier paired with a 100µF 50V electrolytic capacitor for smoothing. Without the capacitor, the animation pattern may glitch on the pulsed DC output of a bare rectifier.
