Lighthouse LEDs has been providing top quality components for over 20 years and have become the go-to supplier for many industries through Ebay and our personal website, where there is more ordering flexibility and products offered. If you need resistors, wire, heatshrink, switches or LED drivers you can find them at those links. We have, perhaps, the best and widest selection of LEDs out there!
20 x LED 5mm / 4.8mm Yellow Gold Ultra Bright Straw Hat Wide Angle LEDs Light

Yellow/Gold 5mm Straw Hat LEDs deliver a wide 135° viewing angle that makes them the go-to choice for applications where side visibility and broad light spread matter as much as forward brightness — panel indicators, cockpit backlighting, and model railroad grade crossing signals included.

Each LED runs at a forward voltage of 1.9–2.1V at 20mA, emitting amber-yellow light at 592.5 nm with a clear lens for undiffused, clean output. At 8,000–10,000 mcd these are genuinely bright — visible in room light — while the 135° straw hat profile distributes that light wide rather than in a tight beam. Lens is clear on both the dome and surface, so the color reads true without diffusion haze.

Common applications

  • Model railroad signals and grade crossings — 592nm amber hits the right wavelength for HO and N scale warning lights; the wide angle covers multiple viewing positions on a layout without repositioning
  • Automotive instrument cluster restoration — fits many 1990s–2000s Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, and Subaru instrument panels where OEM incandescent bulbs have burned out or shifted color
  • RC vehicle lighting — turn signals and running lights on 1:10 and 1:8 scale trucks and crawlers; straw hat form factor seats naturally behind thin bezels
  • DIY panel indicators and control boards — fault, caution, and standby status indicators on homebrew electronics and ham radio equipment where amber conventionally means "attention"
  • Theatrical and prop lighting — fire effect backlighting, vintage vacuum tube glow simulation, and "on-air" studio indicator panels
  • Pinball machine mods — direct drop-in for #47 and #44 bayonet socket adapters on older Williams and Bally playfields wanting a warm amber tone

Wiring & power notes

DC power recommended: LEDs are designed for DC. Running on AC will cause flickering and reduce lifespan. If using a low-voltage AC source (model railroad transformer, DCC track voltage), convert it to DC with a MB1S bridge rectifier plus a 100µF 50V electrolytic capacitor for clean, ripple-free output.

Resistor quick reference — 2V LEDs (red, orange, yellow, amber) at 20mA:

Supply VoltageResistorPower Rating
3V56Ω1/4W
4V100Ω1/4W
5V150Ω1/4W
6V200Ω1/4W
7V270Ω1/4W
8V300Ω1/4W
9V360Ω1/4W
10V430Ω1/4W
11V470Ω1/4W
12V510Ω1/4W
13V560Ω1/2W
14V620Ω1/2W
15V680Ω1/2W

Prefer not to calculate resistor values? Our 20mA LED Current Limiter eliminates the math entirely. Active constant-current drive to 20mA across a 4–45V DC supply — ideal for automotive circuits where voltage fluctuates. Multiple LEDs in series share one driver.
