In 1938 General Motors Corporation donated 466 photographs covering the years 1909 (when General Motors was founded) to 1938 to a major East Coast library. These photographs were identified, mounted on cardstock and made available to the public in the library's "flat files" collection. Realizing both the historic importance of these images and the need to preserve them from further handling, the library archives them as digital scans.

Not a year-by-year, or model-by-model collection but all of the makers that together formed General Motors Corporation are represented: Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, DeSoto, LaSalle, Plymouth, Pontiac, General Motors Truck, Chevrolet, and even Yellow Coach are all represented. Included are shop record photographs, early historic photographs, advertising photographs, and images prepared for press kits for major auto shows.

Because all of these photographs were donated for use by the public, they are in the public domain and can be used to illustrate homework, reports, newsletters or simply enjoyed!

The .pdf files can be read with Adobe Acrobat Reader, available free. This program will allow you to scroll through and zoom in on the images. The .jpeg images can be easily cropped, resized, put in photoshop, or restored using any photo and imaging software you might have.

I will accept paypal.com and all sales are final.
