Beautiful antique. A time gone by.

It has some dings, as seen in the photos. I imagine this piece reupholstered in velvets and repurposed to a beautiful jewel case. Or a poker box.

But, as is, would add a lovely vintage look as a shelf sitter in the bedroom or foyer.

The box cover has broken off long ago.

The fabrics are securely on the rigid cardboard board. No peeling.

From Curio.com

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, detachable stiff collars were an essential component of formal and business attire for men. To protect these delicate garments from dust, moisture, and deformation, gentlemen stored them in specialized cylindrical containers known as collar boxes.

>Craftsmen typically constructed these boxes using a sturdy cardboard or wood core covered in textured leather, cloth, or paper, often featuring a central spindle or compartment. These practical accessories were standard fixtures on dressing tables and inside travel luggage, reflecting the meticulous grooming standards of the period.
