Pruning. For more side branches from a branch, cut it back in the winter. To stop a branch growing or reduce its length, cut it back in the summer.
Size. Up to 7 metres (24 feet) after four growing seasons. It will not grow much higher than 9 metres (28 to 30 feet), and pruning keeps it shorter.
Roots. Willow roots look for water. If you plan to plant near a house, get advice from an expert such as a structural engineer, or bury the pot to stop its roots getting out.
Hybrid willow. Very fast growing. Some grow taller and skinnier, ideal for structures that need flexibility. Others grow shorter and fatter, ideal for logs.
Varieties. We grow many hundreds, and a mix is generally best. A mix is less likely to succumb to disease and gives a longer season of catkins and leaves. We do not label them unless the listing says so.
Organic? We are not registered as organic as we choose not to pay the schemes for their logos. We do not use anything on our soil or willows that would be counted as non-organic. We see ourselves as organic but we can't state it in our listings.
