What a great find! It is rare to find this style of frame, in this era, with a round photo setting. Also uncommon is that it comes with its glass, as well as a mat, both which appear to be very old, though I’m not sure if they are original to the frame. The only flaw to this item is that the round mat is torn… However, the tear is clean, and with a secure piece of tape on the back to hold it together, the tear will be invisible. The glass is a perfect fit, and it has rough edges. I have shown this in the last picture of the set.
This is definitely cast-iron. It is very magnetic, which is a tell tail sign that it is iron. It has a brass finish on the front and back, and I believe it is brass plated, but I am not an expert. I have not attempted to polish this in anyway, but it does appear that some of the brass finish is worn in some areas, just typical aging wear.
One of the things I love about this frame is that the upper and lower design is opposite from each other. Most frames like this are symmetrical in design. I think this gives it a unique look :-)
This is a wall hanging frame. It does have a wire on the back for hanging. The photo area has the glass, the mat, an interior piece to hold the photo secure, and a finished back plate, which appears to be made of tin with a gold color to it.
There is one picture in the set, showing the frame laying flat on its back. When hung on the wall, only the center circle is flush to the wall, and the rest of the frame is slightly bowed out for a more three-dimensional look. It only comes out about half an inch, maybe slightly more, but definitely not a full inch.
There is a manufacture number stamp, although I am not able to determine who the manufacturer is. There are no other identifying marks.
