This is a beautifully vibrant hand-hooked wool rug worked in a block/patchwork format — sixteen individual squares, each hooked with its own stylized tulip, daisy, or flower motif in deep jewel tones of navy, burgundy, gold, red, and slate blue. The rug is finished with a rust/gold velvet binding tape, and hand-inscribed along the edge is the touching inscription: "Made by Grace C. Vaughan Ayres, Age 89..." — confirming this piece as a documented, dated work by the same identified folk artist responsible for our companion sheep-farm rug, made late in her life. A wonderful, richly colored piece for collectors of American rug hooking and folk art.
