Up for sale, a 1964 Supro Studio Four lap steel in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, finished in Bermuda Red and complete with the original chipboard case. Produced in Chicago by parent company Valco, this uncommon Supro steel features all the hallmarks of Valco lap steel design in the era, with a string through pickup and Art Deco-style geometric position markers.

Valco’s string-through split-coil pickup is perhaps best known for its reappropriation by Ry Cooder into his legendary “Coodercaster;” it’s not hard to see why Cooder was so drawn to this particular design, which offers just the right amount of sparkle, smoothness, and twang depending on how much you dig in. Exceptionally responsive to use inputs, the tone is warm and articulate, quintessential Valco. This Supro steel has been freshly restrung with a set of 12-52 flatwound strings here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar.
