Want to Support British Sellers?

If supporting British businesses and keeping more of your spending within the UK economy is important to you, then be careful of Chinese sellers pretending to be a UK seller.  eBay is rife with sellers and listings saying UK when they aren't.

Just because an item is located or dispatched from the UK doesn't necessarily mean the seller is UK-based. Overseas businesses can hold stock in UK warehouses and fulfilment centres, so a UK item location and fast UK delivery only tell you where the stock is being dispatched from — not where the business itself is based. Your purchase may ultimately be benefiting an overseas-based business.

Things worth checking:

Is American English spelling and grammer used? E.g. color instead of colour
Seller's registered business name and address, but this will usually be the stock location.
Country shown in the seller's business information, might also be stock location though
Where returns are actually handled
Whether a UK phone number is given in the contact details.
Are there Chinese characters on any of the images?
Does the seller provide a UK based customer service.

Language can sometimes provide a clue, although it should never be relied upon by itself. Examples of American rather than British English include:

Color instead of colour
Favorite instead of favourite
Center instead of centre
Jewelry instead of jewellery
Gray instead of grey
Catalog instead of catalogue
Canceled instead of cancelled
Traveler instead of traveller
Mom instead of mum
