Historical information:
  Soviet qualification badge "1st Category" for running. Awarded to athletes for meeting the 1st Category standard in track and field athletics, not for winning a competition. Established in 1947. This variant was produced between 1971 and 1980 by the Experimental Factory of Sports Souvenirs and Badges.

  1st Category standards in the 1970s-80s were approximately: men - 100 m in 11.2 sec, 1000 m in 2:36.0; women - 100 m in 13.0 sec, 1000 m in 3:05.0.
