I bought this Audio-Technica AT3035 new around 2004 and used it in my own studio. I plugged it in on 13 September 2026 and it works.

It came out of one of Australia's first podcast production studios — mine. That studio made work over the years for AMP, Virgin Australia, Monocle and Tourism Tasmania, and recorded interviews with people like Neil Perry, Adriano Zumbo and Cheryl Strayed. I'm not going to tell you this particular microphone was on any particular one of those jobs. It might have been. I can't remember that far back and I'm not going to invent it. What I can tell you is that it lived in a working studio rather than a bedroom, it's been kept in its Audio-Technica pouch, and I'm the only owner it's ever had.

The AT3035 is a large-diaphragm cardioid condenser, made in Japan — it says so on the body. Audio-Technica discontinued it, which is why the ones you see listed are mostly coming out of the US and taking three weeks to arrive. This one is in Sydney.

The stand in the photos — weighted round base, telescoping shaft, no brand on it anywhere — weighs 1,052 g on the kitchen scales. That's a kilo of postage for the cheapest thing here, and it's the part most likely to turn up with the base scuffed. So I'm not posting it. Collect the lot from Rozelle and it's yours, set up exactly as you see it.

Condition

The paint has worn through around the logo on the front and there are dark scuff marks along the seam below it — you can see both in the photos, and I've shot it from the front so you're not guessing. Light scuffing elsewhere. The grille has no dents. Both switches, low cut and the 10 dB pad, move cleanly. No crackle when I wiggle the XLR at the mic end. It doesn't smell of anything.
