Judy Schroeder (20th-21st Century)
Orange / San Diego County, California
Watercolor / Collage
This is an exceptional original watercolor and integrated collage on heavy rag paper. It is a medley of the sights and sounds of the island of Moorea in French Polynesia. It features the Papetoai Church with volcanic peaks and lagoon. There is a man ringing the church bell on the adjacent bell tower. It also includes hibiscus, orchid and plumeria flowers, an outrigger canoe, a fisherman, chickens and clothes drying on a clothes line. Judy creates these collages that combine watercolor, pasted paper and gouache. They are often tropical scenes with vibrant floral and architectural elements as we have here. Her subject matter is often global.
Judy Schroeder grew up on an orange and avocado farm in rural Escondido, San Diego County in the 1940's and 1950's. However she has spent most of her life in nearby Orange County operating a gallery in Orange, California for many years. She has a very strong presence in the Laguna Beach and Orange County art community.
It is a large piece. Frame measures 27 1/2" inches by 35 1/2 inches. Paper measures 23 inches by 30 inches. Rag paper is beautifully presented in a floating display. It is framed in white and glassed. Local pickup is welcome. Add a piece of the South Pacific to your decor.
