This is an exceptional original, antique, soft pastel on paper. Subject is a nocturnal landscape featuring a small cottage by a body of water illuminated by a prominent moon. The style is characteristic of 19th or early 20th century landscape art often associated with movements like the Hudson River School. It is signed "Phillips" in pastel LR. These antique Phillips pastels with this signature and subject matter occasionally come onto the art market but there is very little bio information available for him (her). He paints these moonlight pastels with a cottage and a body of water. His landscapes are exceptional and he deserves greater notoriety. 

Antique wood frame measures a tall 37 inches by 19 inches. Paper measures 16 inches by 34 inches. It is with a 19th century glass with all the wonderful imperfections of an antique piece of glass.
