A cabinet/desktop hand painted earthenware match safe with striker.
Beautifully decorated with medallion,
depicting a Roman/Greek profile in gold color
against red background and decorated with scrolls.
Lid with a serrated surface for striking.

Minor losses of gold and red colors on the lid and on the base,

Marked to the underside with impressed initials
"FGW." for Ferdinand Gerbing
and numerals "349" for pattern or manufacturer's code.

Made in Bohemia, Germany,
in the second half of the 19th century,
(today the Czech Republic)
