The collection features famous Japanese folding-screen paintings depicting elegant figures, traditional life, and classical Japanese culture.
1975 – Matsuura Screen (Matsuura Byobu / 婦女遊楽図屏風)
Issued on April 21, 1975. The design is based on the famous Matsuura Screen, also known as a scene of women enjoying leisure. The work is an outstanding example of early Japanese genre painting and traditional decorative art.
1976 – Hikone Screen (Hikone Byobu / 彦根屏風)
Issued on April 20, 1976. The design features the celebrated Hikone Screen, a masterpiece of early Edo-period genre painting depicting elegant figures in a richly detailed interior setting.
1977 – Weaving Scene Screen (Hataori-zu Byobu / 機織図屏風)
Issued on April 20, 1977. The design depicts women engaged in traditional weaving, surrounded by decorative gold clouds, clothing, and autumn plants. The original artwork is associated with the early Edo-period genre-painting tradition and is preserved by the MOA Museum of Art.
The three issues are especially attractive as a group because they represent Japanese traditional art, everyday life, women’s figures, decorative screen painting, and the artistic heritage of the Edo period.
