A beautiful and substantial Victorian sterling silver locket, fully hallmarked and dating to 1882.
The front is exceptionally decorative, featuring finely engraved floral detail together with applied rope-twist, beaded and scroll decoration arranged in a striking layered design.
The locket opens to reveal two portrait photographs, which can of course be removed or replaced if desired.
Victorian sterling silver locket
Fully hallmarked for 1882
Large statement size
Approx. 70mm long including bale x 40mm wide x 10mm deep
Weight: 19g
Ornate engraved and applied decoration
Presented in good antique condition overall with age-related wear. The front remains particularly attractive with the decorative detail displaying very well. The reverse was originally gilt and much of this gilding has worn away through use, with areas of discolouration and surface marking. There are also some light dents to the reverse, as photographed. The bale is very slightly twisted but the locket still hangs flat when worn. The locket opens and closes as it should.
