Comes with the skewer, it is a little rusty but the skewer was used to insert prior to inserting the glass thermometer to avoid breaking the thermometer. Think of it as pre drilling a hole. There is a blue line but it has separated and that is the reason it does not work. It does go up and down some but two lines do not connect. It is colored water or alcohol. This was used before mercury and is non toxic.
