Antique Map of Oceania - c1888

A detailed map of Oceania, with an alpha-numeric border and index of place-names to verso. 

This incredibly comprehensive map was published as part of the "Picturesque Atlas Of Australasia". 

An epic publishing venture designed to commemorate the centenary of Australia, the atlas was not a commercial success 

but was as informative and attractive as intended. As an early example of machine colouring in lithography still a very interesting map.

Small imprint stamp to lower left corner "Chelsea Public Library".

Good condition, fine detail, some age tone
