Synopsis:

Set during the Qing Dynasty, this historical drama follows Patrol Censor Gui Lanshan – a clever and unorthodox official nicknamed "The Hard One to Tangle With." Despite the rampant corruption among court officials who prey on the common people, Gui has his own way of handling injustice, big or small, always with wit, humor, and sharp observation.

In one gripping arc, the seemingly incorruptible Minister Ba turns out to be secretly amassing ill-gotten wealth. Gui Lanshan learns of Ba's secret and hires the master thief Yan Wu to steal a massive bank draft from Ba's mansion, then reports it as "lost property." When Ba claims it as his own, the truth comes to light – and the emperor rewards Gui with an honor plaque reading "Pure Family Tradition."

Meanwhile, a poor girl named Lan and General Shuangxi, a favorite of General Hu, have been childhood sweethearts with a marriage contract. But Lan's father, desperate for money, signs another contract with the wealthy imperial uncle. General Hu wants to help Shuangxi, but finds himself caught between duty, loyalty, and the law. Gui Lanshan must navigate these tangled cases with humor, humanity, and a clever legal mind – without offending either side.
