The detailed design depicts the snow-covered mountains, an early cable car—probably the historic Solaise téléphérique—and the distinctive tower of the village church. At the bottom appear the traditional Savoy colours and the historic eagle emblem associated with Val d’Isère.

The eagle was adopted as the resort’s emblem in 1934 and redesigned during the early 1950s. Based on its traditional emblem, enamel workmanship and period pin fitting, this badge most likely dates from approximately the 1940s–1950s.

Made from gold-tone metal with multicoloured enamel and fitted with an old-style horizontal pin fastening on the reverse. No maker’s mark is visible.

A scarce and attractive piece of early French Alpine, skiing and cable-car memorabilia. I was unable to locate another example with this exact combination of the Val d’Isère church, mountains and cable car.

Condition: Authentic vintage condition with surface wear, age-related tarnishing, scratches, discolouration and small areas of enamel loss, particularly around the edges. The reverse and fastening show oxidation and wear consistent with age. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
