Born in Echigo Province (modern-day Sanjo City), Gyōda was known for his expertise in flower and bird paintings. He studied in Kyoto under Yamamoto Baitei and was influenced by the Edo-era literati painting style passed down through his family, including his uncle Gyōda Hakkai, one of the oldest painters in the Sanjo art circle. Gyōda's works have influenced both local and regional artists, with notable disciples such as Terada Senshaku, Taga Nihin, and Katagiri Sondō. His art reflects the refined aesthetics of the Echigo literati tradition. The scroll measures approximately 23.2 inches in height and 46.5 inches in width, with the mounting including the hanging loop. The artwork itself measures approximately 15.7 inches by 11.4 inches.
