Offered for sale is a fine and highly collectible antique gentleman's pocket watch chain, made in Pforzheim, Germany and associated with the renowned Kollmar & Jourdan manufacture.
The chain bears the historic “RF” hallmark together with the “DOUBLE” mark and the distinctive arrow symbol. These markings are associated with the manufacturing union between Kollmar & Jourdan and Rodi & Wienenberger of Pforzheim, two important names in historic German jewellery and watch-chain production. The original markings are clearly visible in the detailed macro photographs.
The chain is crafted in traditional Rolled Gold (Doublé construction, a period technique in which a layer of gold is mechanically bonded to a durable base-metal core.
This construction was widely valued for producing the appearance and durability of gold jewellery while creating a strong piece suitable for everyday use. The chain retains a rich antique gold appearance and attractive period patina.
The construction is particularly attractive, with substantial interlocking links that give the chain a strong visual presence while retaining the elegant proportions expected from quality Pforzheim manufacture.
The large period spring ring and dog clip complete the classic pocket-watch configuration. The fittings are substantial and complement the weight and quality of the chain.
Excellent antique condition. The chain presents beautifully for its age, retaining an attractive original finish and genuine period character. There is normal minor age-related surface wear and patina, but no major damage is apparent.
Please examine all high-resolution photographs carefully, especially the close-up images of the RF and DOUBLE hallmarks, link construction, fittings and overall finish. The photographs form an important part of the description and show the actual item offered.
A particularly attractive example for collectors of German antique jewellery, Kollmar & Jourdan pieces, Pforzheim jewellery, Rolled Gold / Doublé chains, pocket watches and gentleman's accessories. Its distinctive construction, substantial hardware and surviving historic markings make this much more interesting than an unmarked period watch chain.
