A griffin is not simply a giant bird. It combines the power and predatory vision of an eagle with the strength, weight and authority of a lion.

So we sculpted our own.

This original Carnivore Studios design blends the hooked beak and powerful upper skull of an eagle with the broader proportions, muscular structure and formidable jaw of a lion. The result is a believable mythical specimen rather than another enlarged bird skull with a fantasy name.

At approximately 20 cm / 7.9 inches long, this version retains the anatomy and character of our larger Griffin while fitting easily onto shelves, bookcases, desks and curiosity cabinets.

The lower jaw is supplied separately, allowing the skull to be displayed closed or posed open.

Many so-called griffin skulls are simply enlarged bird skulls. They represent the eagle half of the creature but ignore the lion completely.

We built this design from scratch. Its hooked beak, large eye sockets and predatory upper profile are influenced by an eagle, while the broad rear cranium, reinforced cheek structure and powerful lower jaw bring in the weight and strength of a lion.

The eagle contributes the hooked beak, sharp visual focus and unmistakable bird-of-prey profile.

The lion contributes mass, with a deeper skull, stronger muscle attachment areas and a substantial lower jaw.

Together they create a fantasy skull that feels like it could have belonged to a powerful animal capable of hunting from the sky and overpowering prey on the ground.

Griffins have appeared in art and mythology for thousands of years, from ancient Persia and Greece to medieval manuscripts, heraldry and European folklore.

Combining the head and wings of an eagle with the body of a lion, the griffin united two animals traditionally seen as rulers of their worlds: the eagle of the sky and the lion of the land.

They were often described as fierce guardians of gold, sacred places and royal treasures. Their strength and vigilance made them enduring symbols of protection, courage and authority.

Our sculpture was created to look like the remains of that legendary guardian.

Measuring approximately 20 cm / 7.9 inches long, this version is large enough to show the full anatomy of the sculpt without needing the space required by our enormous 45 cm edition.

It works particularly well among old books, maps, dice, candles, potion bottles or natural history pieces, creating the appearance of a specimen taken from a forgotten museum or wizard’s private study.

This is not a bought-in model, downloaded file or generic fantasy ornament.

The Griffin was digitally sculpted from scratch by Carnivore Studios, then printed, hand finished and individually checked in our own family workshop.

Produced using Carnivore Studios PLA Bone Composite, selected for its strength, crisp detail and natural matte appearance.

The warm bone tone gives the piece the appearance of a strange museum specimen without the cheap glossy finish found on many mass-produced fantasy props.

Each skull is printed at high resolution, carefully hand finished and individually quality checked before dispatch.

This is a handmade fantasy skull replica. It is not real bone and contains no animal material.

Fine layer texture or slight hand-finished variation may be visible when viewed closely and is a normal characteristic of the production process.

The lower jaw is supplied separately. Books, candles, dice, stands and other photographic props are not included unless specifically stated.
