A beautiful and substantial hand-carved wooden bureau / fall-front writing desk with exceptional decorative detail throughout.
This striking piece has been in my family for over 30 years and is believed to be approximately 40–50 years old. While I cannot confirm its exact origin, I believe it may be from Thailand or another part of South East Asia.
The bureau features:
* Drop-down writing surface * Internal pigeon-hole storage and small drawers * Two full-width drawers * Lower double-door cupboard * Decorative brass handles and escutcheons * Extensive hand-carved panels to the front, sides and cupboard doors depicting traditional East Asian village and landscape scenes
It would make a wonderful statement piece in a home office, living room, hallway or period property.
The bureau is in good used condition for its age, with the expected age-related marks, scratches and small chips to the finish. Please refer to the photographs as these form part of the description.
I have previously sought advice regarding the piece and was informed that comparable examples could achieve anywhere between £300–£800, depending on origin, age and buyer interest. I have therefore priced it at £500 ONO, but I am happy to consider sensible offers.
The bureau is large and heavy, so buyer will need to arrange collection from Erith, South East London.
