Kentucky Bluegrass State American Guide Series WPA Writers Project, 1939, No Map
This listing is for a vintage 1939 hardcover copy of Kentucky: A Guide to the Bluegrass State, compiled and written by the Federal Writers' Project of the Work Projects Administration (WPA) for the State of Kentucky. Part of the highly collectible American Guide Series, this volume was sponsored by the University of Kentucky and published by Harcourt, Brace and Company (New York) in October 1939 (second printing; copyrighted 1939). Bound in original dark green pebbled cloth with gilt/black stamped titles on the cover and spine, the 489-page book features detailed regional tours, historical chapters, black-and-white photographic plates (including Fort Knox / Gold Depository photos), and a printed "Key to Kentucky Tours 1938" overview map across the front endpapers. The original folding map that would store in the sleeve found on the inside of the back cover is no longer present/not included.
Condition
About Good overall vintage condition as shown. The dark green pebbled cloth binding is square, firm, and structurally sound, some light cosmetic corner bumping and shelf wear present. Text has dulled making it not very legible. The internal text block is solid, and the interior pages are clean, crisp, and readable. No names, bookplates or library markings present but I did find a handful of small pencil notations within here and there. The original paper pocket envelope remains cleanly attached inside the rear cover, but, as mentioned, the separate folding map is absent. Please see the included photos for best sense of condition as they are of the exact book available for sale.
Shipping This will be carefully packaged to ensure safe delivery to destination. Please let me know if you are interested in any other listings as I will gladly combine multiple items to lower overall postage.
