ITEM DESCRIPTION – From the Pipedia Website: "Often referred to as America's greatest pipemaker, Michael Butera won awards for his pipes on a regular basis. In fact, he won awards every year he actively presented pipes at Pipe Collectors International shows - nine straight years! His pipes have achieved legendary status, coveted by collectors all over the world.
This is the first of Michael Butera's Limited Edition cased sets featuring his finest work! As seen by the metal plate, this set was the first one made, and dated back to April 3rd, 1988. The top pipe in the photos is an A grade Royal Classic with spectular straight grain and birdseye And the shank ring is 14 karat gold! The tobacco chamber shows very moderate prior use and is super clean. The stem has no bite marks and just a hint of scratching on the bottom at the lip area.
The bottom pipe in the photos is also mesmerizing. It is an A grade Antique Vintage Classic with a marvelous ring grain aroundthe bowl. It also boasts a 14 karat gold shank ring! The tobacco chamber shows very moderate prioruse and is super clean. The pipe has no bite marks and just a bit of scratching on the bottom at the lip area.
Finally, Michael Butera himself made the special hinged lid case. It is made of two kinds of specially treated wood and the pipes fit perfectly in the case.
