| Victor TT-801: A fantastic and highly rare "Golden Era" direct drive turntable! |
Item Description
The Victor TT-801, released in Japan in 1981 during the "Golden Era" of Japanese audiophile equipment, is a well-regarded but extremely rare direct drive turntable of high quality of both engineering and sound. One salient feature of the TT-801 is the turbo disk stabilizer system. This is enabled by combination with the turbo disk stabilizer unit (“TS-1”, not included), which is essentially a vacuum pump. The design of the TT-801 allows for air to pass through holes in the platter and out through the spindle. Basically, the pressure differential on either side of the vinyl record will stabilize the disc and enable a high degree of vibration supression in the mid- to low-frequency regions, up to 20 dB or more! The TT-801 features a low-vibration DC motor with a coreless structure absent of cocking and achieves a torque of 2.5 kg-cm. This fabulous motor is controlled by a unique double-servo quartz circuit and synthesizer system, which enhances the stability of the quartz lock by 30x compared to previous models. There is a reset switch that can instantly return the motor to standard speed. The TT-801 has some impressive stats, including an SNR of 80 dB (DIN-B) and wow and flutter of <0.01% (RMS, rotating part FG method). Overall, the TT-801 is a superb unit, and when combined with a great tonearm, you'll have a system with fantastic performance. The TT-801 is a highly precise and ultra-rare vintage Japanese turntable that you won’t want to miss!
