A Lovely Antique George II Sterling Silver Pepper Pot/Caster by Samuel Wood. Assayed in London in 1747. In fine condition.

George II sterling silver pepper pot or caster by the highly regarded London silversmith, Samuel Wood. It bears a complete set of London hallmarks on the base together with Samuel Wood’s maker’s punch mark. Assayed in 1747, it has a beautifully pierced pull-off top. No dents or dings.

Although a little worn through polishing, it bears the crest of Clan MacKenzie (a mountain in flames) with the Clan motto "Luceo Non Uro" (I shine, not burn) together with the monogram MGM. These initials are also punched into the base rim. It may be possible to identify the specific member of the Clan (MG MacKenzie) by researching their family history.
