King George V signed 21x17” warrant dated 22^nd January 1920. In part stating that Thomas Parker Porter ‘We have thought it necessary for the encouragement of our subjects trading to the United States of America to appoint a Consul-General for the states of Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Rhode Island, to reside at Boston.

King George V was King of the United Kingdom, the British Dominions and Emperor of India. During the destruction of the First World War, his Royal House also became a casualty with the renaming in 1917 to the House of Windsor. The changing political tide saw him in 1924 appoint the first Labour government, and in 1931 the dominions of the Empire were reorganised as independent states within the Commonwealth of Nations.
