This listing is for an original Charlie Chaplin felt pennant. It is a great portrait of the legendary comedian, ultra rare! This pennant is marked "Pat. App'd For / Essanay Star." It measures 3" x 7 3/4" [8 x 20 cm]).
These small felt pennants were produced by the Essanay Film Manufacturing Company circa 1915–1916, when Chaplin was under contract with Essanay. They were sold as novelty promotional items — essentially early movie star merchandise. The pennant shows Chaplin in his iconic "Little Tramp" costume with the bowler hat and toothbrush mustache.
Key details:
"Pat. App'd For" means a patent had been applied for but not yet granted — helping date it to the Essanay era (1915–1916)
The image shows some wear and foxing consistent with 110+ year old age
There is a small area of damage/loss visible on the felt near Chaplin's chest in Image 2
The back (Image 3) is plain felt — typical for these items.
