Chinese Qing Cloisonné Enamel Handbell w/ Cloisonné Clapper, c.1870–1900
Chinese cloisonné enamel handbell made in the late Qing dynasty, executed in gilt bronze with dense polychrome cloisonné decoration. The bell features a fully cloisonné-covered handle and retains its original cloisonné enamel clapper bead, suspended on a brass chain.
Both the exterior and interior are enamelled, with the interior finished in turquoise glaze consistent with late Qing domestic cloisonné production. Decorative motifs include scrolling foliage and stylized floral forms rendered in cobalt blue, turquoise, malachite green, aubergine, iron-red, and creamy white enamels against a gilt ground.
