A decorative late Victorian cabinet plate by Minton, dating to 1887.
The plate is in the Aesthetic Movement style, with a finely detailed gilt border over deep cobalt blue. The centre well has a pale blue glaze with a fluted or radiating effect, leading to a central reserve decorated with a bird in flight and Japonesque floral detail in gold.
The reverse has the Minton impressed mark and date cipher for 1887.
Aesthetic Movement ceramics often drew influence from Japanese art and design, with birds, flowers, asymmetry, stylised natural forms and rich decorative surfaces all popular features. This plate has a particularly attractive contrast between the deep border, pale blue centre and gilt reserve detail.

Condition
