Designed as a sculpture of an African lady, this elegant and beautiful, vintage lamp is the epitome of mid-century style and nostalgia.
The stunning figurine is a tastefully sensual, semi-nude figure of an African woman and is formed from a chalk plaster, painted and glazed in glossy black with a white modesty scarf and bears Registered Design No 896007 for 1960.
The lamp is set on a heavy base which balances the figure and painted pretty lamp stand soundly. This is potentially a unique lamp.
I’m finding mixed information re whether it was designed by Nieri (most likely) or Paoli but either way it is a very desirable piece – and a collector will know!
Measures lamp 16in (40.5 cm) high, (figure 13.75in (35cm high) 7 in (17.5 cm) wide & 8in (20.5cm) depth
The lamp will need re-wiring and PAT testing before using.
The figure is in pretty good condition for chalkware, with the expected minor paint losses (to the toes) and other small signs of use – please see images & use magnifier tool to inspect. I have not cleaned it so dust is included.

I describe all items as accurately and honestly as I can in the listing description & pictures and believe in treating buyers as I’d like to be treated. I want you to be happy with your purchase so please ensure you use the image magnification tool to look carefully before bidding. Items may show normal wear and patina consistent with age and use and buyers may wish to clean purchases prior to wear or use.
Due to the very individual and pre-loved nature of vintage & antique items, this is listed and sold ‘as seen’ so sales are final and cannot offer guarantees, refunds, credits or exchanges.
I always try to use recycled materials so please expect random packaging, probably not at all indicative of the contents and there may be several layers. Packaging may not be pretty but should be effective!
